The Brooklyn Writers Space brings its monthly reading series to Community Bookstore! Join us for an evening of reading and discussion, open to the public, featuring Mia X. Perez, Alexander Wilson, and Steven Mechlowicz Neal.
Brooklyn Writers Space was founded fifteen years ago to provide an affordable sanctuary where writers can turn off their phones, ignore the dishes in the sink, and do the hard work of writing.Since then, BWS has served over 1800 writers who have published countless articles, books, dissertations, poems, stage and screen plays.
Mia X. Perez is an undergraduate student of creative writing at the New School. She is currently writing her first novella titled ‘Joyrider’. You can find her published journalism pieces on bust.com.
Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, Alexander Wilson spent seven years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania completing his undergraduate and graduate degrees in communications at Robert Morris University while also making short and feature length films. A former film publicist, he is currently a lighting technician who has worked on the sets of Blue Bloods, Girls, I Think We’re Alone Now, Paterno, Ocean’s 8 and The Sinner. He also has five scars he is really proud of.
After working for two decades as a financial advisor, Steven Mechlowicz Neal returned to school, earning an M.A. in English at Brooklyn College, where he studied how stories of spiritual and financial rescue shape behavior. Born in Brooklyn, but raised in Texas, where the Second Coming is imminent, Steven explores the provocative tales of God and money found in the immoderate corners of religion and economics and is currently at work on a novel. He lives with his wife, nine-month-old daughter, and dog, Scout, in Park Slope.
