Play It As It Lays (Proof Copy)
Didion, Joan. Play It as It Lays. New York: Farrar, Straus, & Giroux, 1970.
Proof copy. Book condition: Very Good. Salmon cardboard covers with comb binding. Printed at the Crane Duplicating Service in Cape Cod, MA. Includes a charming page before the half-title from the duplicating service insisting that “If one page seems as a whole lighter than others, this is the fault of the proof boy, not the method. Probably he was in a hurry and perhaps did not read. As to the shop who produced this proof, we do read. We recommend this book to you and feel sure that it will fulfill the hope of the makers.” An uncommon form of Didion’s dark second novel and a physical artifact of 1970’s publishing.
